The average american watches 34 hours of television a week [1],  and he also spends 32 hours of his time surfing the web [2]. That’s around 2 months of watching TV, and around 2 months of surfing the web. Which means that the average american spends 4 months out of the year connected to something. The average american also sleeps 4 months out of the year [3]. I hope the average american spends the other 4 months of the year living life.

Fall went well. In the beginning I developed an iPhone app that made picture uploads to flickr, as well as learned some extra basics to photography. Then I went on to develop a python script that search’s for song matches, put in one mp3 to match to a list of mp3s. I also did some more photography work, I came out with a really good piece. 

Now for the spring, I’m working on designing the UI for a food ordering kioski for my Human-Computer Interaction course, I’ve been doing some animations and models using Maya, as well as thinking of a self-portrait video for another project. I’ll most likely be doing a talk about the kioski for my Senior Seminar class.

I like the silence

I like to stay at home by myself, the silence is nice. I hear cars going by here and there, I hear the sounds of the night, or the day. At night all I hear is darkness, and cold. During the day, the same, but there are more people, I can hear them leaving the house, or parking their car. Silence is precious. 

Another reason for me to love snowboarding so much, the silence. The mountain is silent, there are trees, there are snow, there is nature. Sure it’s not always that silent because of skiers, snowboarders, and ski lifts. But for that one second, that silence is precious. Climbing  is the next step, climb in the winter so that after I climb, I can snowboard my way down. Now that will be silent and precious.

I love Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and this is why.

Think of everything you click on as an object. And the Finder, finds what you want. It’s a finder for what you need. Now the fasts way to access the finder is Command + Space. What do you want to do? Oh I want to go to that webpage I saw three days ago, what was it called? … Oh yea, “blonde sucks dick”, and suddenly all my recent porn pops up. Ok but really, looking for that paper you wrote three years ago? Type in the tittle and it shows up. Photoshop? Type in photoshop. Vacation in Brasil? Just have to type that in, and I’ll find the folder with all the pictures, and movies I’ve made. Truly an object-oriented design.

I liked scribd but there’s way too many google ads on every page, all that text is so distracting.

Do you really need that much money from google ads to have it up? Don’t you have partners and supporters to run the teams finance? If that be the case, then please get some real ads, with you’re own ads engine on the website it self. It will look much better, and will cycle through YOUR partners, not google, no one is partner with google.

Will Twitter replace SMS?

Think about it, you usually send a txt message to a friend because you want to know their status. Now if everyone updates their status, and everyone checks them, then there would be no need for SMS. You can directly connect with me via Twitter.

A great feature on a phone would be able to receive a notification on your phone when someone sends you a twitter. Example: @iuriss hey I’m bored too! Let’s meet up. Then my phone would notify me. Now I know my phone doesn’t do this, but maybe the iPhone does? Anyone to clarify that?

Formula One

It’s great, incredible, amazing to be living now. 2010 is ridiculous. I remember as a kid, playing video games about car races, where the cars had turbo boosts, and the average speed was 150mph, and as a kid I dreamed and imagined what could be. 

Now 15 years after my imagination, it has turned into reality. Formula one is the most amazing, technological advance sport in this word. These cars are amazing. Period. I don’t even have words to describe how incredible it is. And since last year, we have races at night! At night!! Where it was all a dream to race at night on video games. Today 2010, we have a World Grand Prix every year, where only the best make it, and only the wise watch it and know about it. A true creation from a dream that is now reality. 

And I wonder about this war, and the people on this earth, so ungrateful and so full of greed. Greed is what kill us. Why fight with a fellow human? This is our earth, we live here together. The end. Stop the bullshit, and free yourself.

Public education in the USA sucks!

I took up to 5th grade in Brazil, came here, and didn’t learn anything about math until 10th grade. That is ridiculous. Unacceptable. Everyone needs to learn calculous, it makes your brain work, and you are able to find many different solutions. In math you are given the tool, the number, and the goal. Once you advance into integrals, you have many different ways too get to the result, how to get that result, and what it takes. To find the result, you use your calculator. Use your calculator, now, find your answer on paper. 

If you know you’re goal, you will reach it.

iPhone 4 caught up to the world, now with video call, about time… Nokia already has video call, just FYI.

They’re products are great, but what they did is nothing new. Phone’s come with applications like skype and gtalk that are free, and integrated into the cel phones. Apple is building a world for the rich and mindless. Everything that is Google is free, for an example, just to put things into aspect. Not to mention the contracts that Apple makes people get which include AT&T and protection “programs”. I do love Apple, but I still stand by this point. It’s a monopoly that is growing, and everyone is falling for it, when in reality all the software should, and can be provided for free.Not to mention that are places in the world that have video calling over the network, and not over the internet like Apple has made so. US carriers and technology is behind, there is no argument. Apple a growing monopoly, which sooner or later I will have no choice but to join in. My independence is being taken away by marketing tools. iAds is just the beginning, iAd will go into your database in your celphone, and capture everything about your life, and give you Ads that match your personality. Already happens on facebook.

I have a huge huge huge passion for snowboarding. The big mountains, those, those are the only one worth going. I love the thrill it gives me, the speed, the unknown, yet known, of what’s coming up next. I really do need to listen to music when I go, it’ll get me in the mood, the mood to really feel the mountain, the mood to try something new. And the company, wow what a difference the company makes. I want to go with someone that wants to go hard with me, go all the way, and hope for the best. Bruno has that spirit in him, I like that about him, he’s up for anything, too bad he’s following a path that wont come near mine. Unless we take snowboarding trips together every year until we die. 

I want to be there with Travis Rice. I want to get there. And I want to take pictures of the best moments.

The world is sad, we as the people have failed, we have come a long way since the last of us were here, and we have build nothing. Technology has advanced, and nothing will stay from us. What will stay is the ruins of the romans, and the walls of china, but as we have evolved, we have build nothing. We have destroyed the earth and the environment. All that will be left is the trash, the trash that we made, the plastics, the metals, the things we took for granted, and all for our accommodations that we never needed. Why do we need technology? We could live much happier if we all lived in towns, and did something we loved. Technology has made the possibilities endless, but it was never used the way it was meant to be used. Greed has the best of the human race, and greed is what killed us.

Now, it’s too late, things will never be the same again, and there’s nothing that we as the people can do to change the growth that was never deserved. Knowledge is key, but we as the people, need to know the same things, we need to agree on everything, and we don’t. We still think that people in another continent are a different race… they aren’t… we are killing us, we are dead.

When do you stop changing your mind? Is that when you decide to grow up? When you pick a path, and follow it to the fullest?
